Syntax

The pages of this manual teach the language by example. These pages are for when you need the exact spelling: what counts as a token, which characters a name may hold, which words are reserved, and the grammar that says how tokens combine into declarations, statements and expressions. They are reference material, to look things up in rather than to read through.

  • Lexical Elements — characters, white-space and comments, tokens, names, literals, reserved words and operators, with their precedence.
  • Extended BNF — the grammar, written in XML's Extended BNF notation.
  • Syntax Railroad Diagrams — the grammar drawn as diagrams. These are drawn from an older grammar and no longer match the language; they are kept for comparison until they are regenerated or retired.
